TREKKING IN THE MARITIME ALPS NATURAL PARK
Choose it for these reasons:
July 10 - 16th
The programme includes:
The wolf and the Alps
The wildlife Centre Uomini e Lupi (men and Wolves) in Casermette ad Entracque includes an enclosure of about 8ha where some specimens of Canis lupus italicus live. They are animals which could not live in the wild because they have had serious accidents - almost always road accidents – or because they were born in captivity.
1st day: the participants will meet in Borgo San Dalmazzo, where there is a free car park available, and they will go up along the Vallone di Riofreddo-Valle Stura up to the Malinvern mountain hut, at an altitude of 1836m. Dinner and overnight stay.
2nd day: after breakfast we will officially start our tour in the Maritime Alps Park, the largest park in Piedmont. Going up the Bassa del Drous, we will go around the Testa di Malinvern (also known as Mount Malinvern – 2939 m) and thorugh the basin of the lakes of Vallescura and of the Claus we will reach the hut of the vallone del Valasco. Dinner and overnight stay.
3rd day: after breakfast, we will go past the lakes of Fremamorta and then we will go down as far as the bottom of the Valle Gesso and then up again through the Vallone di Assedras up to the Remondino mountain hut, at the foot of the Monte Argentera (3297 m), the highest peak in the Maritime Alps. Dinner and overnight stay.
4th day: the surroundings become definitely alpine, with small lakes and glaciers. After breakfast we will go up the Passo del Brocan and down to the Genova mountain hut. A last quick climb leads us to the Passo Fenestrelle and the Soria mountain hut. Dinner and overnight stay.
5th day: after breakfast, the stage involves going along the Monte Gelas to reach, through the Passo delle Finestre, the French pass Madonne de Fenetre. The Monte Gelas, also known as Cima dei Gelas, on the boundary between Italy and France, with its 3143m altitude is known as the “Mont Blanc of the Maritime Alps”, covered with perennial snow up to late season. Dinner and overnight stay.
6th day: the stage consists of a rich and articulate path situated in France. After breakfast, we will go along the wide Lac Long, to reach the Refuge de Nice (2232 m), a typical mountain hut with an enviable position, among rocks and lakes. Dinner and overnight stay.
7th day: after breakfast, we will have our last climb. We will reach the altitude of 2700m when we will get to the Passo di Pagarì, from there we will go down to the Federici Marchesini mountain hut. It is an alpine severe environment rich in glaciers, despite the fact that we are really close to the sea, which can often be seen from the pass. In the afternoon we will go back to the valley in Borgo San Dalmazzo.
